PEOPLE are being invited to have their say on proposed changes to a bus lanes scheme.
Consultations are under way on plans to amend regulations governing which modes of transport can use bus-only lanes on a key route into Sunderland.
The scheme was introduced several years ago on the A690 Durham Road, covering most of the four miles from its junction with the A19 into the city centre.
Now the city council has decided to consult people over further possible changes .
The public will be asked if they would be in favour of altering Durham Road's lanes from bus-only to no-car status.
Council officials said this would allow goods vehicles, taxis, motorcycles and bicycles to use the lanes, as well as buses.
It is thought the amendment could improve the way the traffic flows and give priority to certain classes of vehicle, while addressing the needs of motorists.
The city council will consult police, emergency services, bus operators and other transport users before deciding whether or not to introduce no-car lanes some time after April.
