RAILINGS are to be erected around Redcar's Cenotaph.
The town's branch of the Royal British Legion hopes the new decorative railings will prevent Remembrance Day poppy wreaths from being blown away by strong winds.
Branch secretary Eric Howden said: "It will be nice to see an improvement long overdue, but financial support was required to complete this project."
The £900 scheme was funded with £750 from the West Redcar Single Regeneration Community Chest and £150 from the legion's own cenotaph restoration fund.
The Dormanstown and Redcar branch of the Merchant Navy Association has requested that names of local seamen killed in action should be added to the cenotaph.
Mr Howden is urging anyone who is aware of other names which should be included to write to him at the Royal British Legion, 92-94 Coatham Road, Redcar.
