Darlington Buildng SOciety NYSD League Division One: FOUR teams are still in contention for the one promotion place but it looks as if it will go to either Great Ayton or Wolviston.

Wolviston played their game against fourth-top Seaton Carew yesterday when bad light stopped play with Seaton on 91-3 replying to a target of 158.

Geoff Peacock was run out after making 51 and the same fate was suffered by Mark O'Neill after he had contributed 34 to the Wolviston total of 157-9. John Fitzpatrick was in splendid form with the ball for Seaton, returning 6-42.

The crucial match was eventually abandoned with Wolviston gaining ten points and Seaton just six.

Great Ayton conceded five crucial points in their bid to end at the top when they failed to claim the last Middlesbrough wicket at Acklam Park on Saturday.

Boro finished with 179 for nine on the board after Ayton declared at 267 for six as the runs.

Seaton Carew played the first of their two games, and defeated Redcar by six wickets with almost five overs to spare.

Their target was 205 and Martin Skirving struck 11 boundaries in 61, Richie Evans had one six and nine fours making 58 and Gareth Sharp carried his bat for 41.

When they made first use of the wicket, Redcar's 50 overs produced the useful total of 204-8 with most of the runs coming from Ollie Rogers, with one six and 12 fours out of 63 and Law with 59.

Billingham Synthonia, who have been among the front-runners most of the season, completed their programme with a six-wicket victory at Marske.

Gary Lynch found the boundary line on nine occasions adding 55 and both Chris Burke and Peter Briggs made 34 enabling Marske to reach 220-4.

The bowling was shared by Keith Martin and Martin Cull who bowled 50 overs between them. After losing an early wicket, Synners never faltered as Phil Bartley (46) and David Fairley (41) set them on the road to victory with a second-wicket partnership. The momentum was maintained by Stephen Driver whose 83 included 17 boundaries.

Darlington had 66 runs in hand of Stokesley who managed only 138 after the visitors had reached 204 mainly as a result of the efforts of Danny Morgans, who stroked 15 fours in 94.

Guisborough defeated Bedale, whose 174 compiled in 45 overs included 47 by James Clarkson with six fours.

James Riley and Simon Trillo shared seven wickets for Guisborough who went on to win comfortably scoring the necessary runs in just 34 overs.

Ryan Murray was their top scorer with an unbeaten 61 which included 11 fours while James Riley (36) and Richard Hornbrook (45) gave valuable support.

After realising the useful total of 197-9, Marton bowled out Barnard Castle for just 115.

Paul Gaynon ended undefeated on 91, with a six and 10 fours and for the visitors, David Stanwix and Andrew Toulson both took three wickets at little cost.

Although Roger Eastwood (34) and Michael Stanwix (32) put together a promising partnership for the second wicket, Barnard Castle never seriously threatened as Chris Lane and Dean Kirby shared six wickets.
