Cleadon SC moved top for the first time after defeating Darlington RA in a five-goal thriller.

Steve Lyall gave RA an early lead but the visitors suffered when the home side scored three times in 10 minutes before the interval.

Danny McGinley bagged a brace and Paul Dixon also struck and although Martin Brown reduced the deficit on the hour, Cleadon held on for their seventh win in 10 attempts.

North Shields are second and they won the match of the day at Stokesley SC. They suffered their second successive defeat, conceding early goals to Eddie Miller and to Paul Blakey.

New Marske dropped into third when they were held to a draw by Harton and Westoe, who led for a long period through Jonathan Mullen. Ian Johnson levelled with 20 minutes remaining but the Seasiders were unable to find a winning goal.

Ferryhill Athletic scored three times but still went down 4-3 to Wolviston who led by three goals at the halfway stage. Guy Whatmore completed a hat-trick and David Dowd also struck with Ferryhill's goals coming from Stuart Cottom (2) and Andrew Patterson.

Barnard Castle Glaxo gained a 3-3 draw at Windscale where they fought back after conceding early goals to Lee Dixon and Dean Rogers.

John Williams and Joseph Brown brought the scores level but Windscale made it 3-2 with seven minutes to go when Andrew MacDonald struck. Glaxo never gave up and were rewarded with an injury-time goal by Williams.

Birtley Town suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Whitehaven, while Jarrow enjoyed a last-minute winner at home to Annfield Plain.

Alan Scott cancelled out Dean Patton's early goal for Jarrow before Michael Hutchinson claimed the winner in the 90th minute with a free kick.

All the goals were scored in the first 33 minutes when Ryhope CW defeated Washington Nissan UK 4-3. David Mosley opened for Nissan but Stephen Rochester quickly levelled and although Darren Maskell netted, a goal by Cameron levelled at 2-2.

Mosley again nudged Nissan in front but Rochester completed his hat-trick and amazingly, there were no further goals in the remaining 57 minutes.
