COUNCIL chiefs have launched a campaign to help bring smiles to youngsters in need of family care.
Help Us Raise 100 Smiles is the name and aim of a drive by North Yorkshire County Council to recruit 100 new foster carers.
The campaign has been designed to tell people about the benefits of fostering and the various types of fostering.
It is backed by an information pack to encourage more people to become foster carers.
The county's executive member with responsibility for social services, Councillor Caroline Patmore, said: "There really is a need for more foster carers in North Yorkshire.
"People often think that some sort of specialist qualifications are needed but this isn't the case.
"Foster carers come from all walks of life, are of all ages and may be single couples with or without children and from all ethnic groups."
Yesterday, 100 balloons were launched from County Hall to launch the drive and promote the number for prospective foster carers to ring - 0800 389 2362.
