A TEENAGER was arrested after an alleged mugging in Darlington's High Row on Sunday.

Police said a man in his late teens was assaulted and his mobile telephone stolen at about 10.30pm.

Police arrested a teenager and later released him on bail pending further inquiries.

Inspector Alan Davidson, of Darlington Police, said: "I think the fact that mobile phones are so widespread now, and as an item of property they are so common, so disposable and usable by the persons who steal them, that these kind of offences are more common than they used to be.

"But I have to say it is not a recurring problem at the moment."
