MORE than 30 firefighters fought a large grassland blaze on the tinder dry Eston hills.
Crews summoned to the scene near Wilton, on Teesside, at 2pm on Monday, fought the fire into the night.
They called in the Cleveland Police plane to look for hotspots around the Eston Nab landmark.
At its height, the blaze could be seen several miles away at Grangetown fire station, whose crews attended.
Cleveland Police closed the westbound carriageway of the A174 trunk road to allow fire engines access.
Motorists slowing down to look at the blaze were blamed for a six vehicle shunt on the opposite carriageway. Four vehicles blocked the road
