A scheme has been set up for people living in the Hartlepool New Deal for Communities (NDC) area to help with education and training costs.
More than 10,000 people live in the area which stretches from Hart Lane to Belle Vue.
Grants of up to £500 are available to people over 16 who wish to take part in accredited courses.
The money can be used towards courses, examinations, registration fees, travel, equipment, books, childcare or any other training related costs.
Lynn Elliott, of New Deal for Communities, said: "People are often prevented from furthering their education or attending training courses because of the costs involved, so this scheme has been set up to overcome this and provide help to New Deal residents."
For details, contact Ms Elliott at NDC, The Arches, 79 Park Road, Hartlepool, or call (01429) 894046.
