A BID to build a North-East children's hospice has received a £6,500 donation.
The money was raised at a charity golf tournament organised by Yorkshire Bank's North-East business centre, on Newcastle's Quayside.
About 20 businesses paid £300 each to enter the inaugural Wearside and Teesside Challenge at Wynyard Hall Golf Club, near Billingham.
Broadcaster and journalist Kathy Secker is behind the campaign to raise £5m to build, equip and run Grace House in Sunderland for at least its first year.
She presented the prizes to the golfers. The overall winner was business finance consultants CPJ Consultancy, of Sunderland.
Ms Secker said: "The North-East has the fewest children's hospice places in the country. Grace House will care for children who have conditions meaning they're not likely to live to adulthood.
"The hospice will offer vital respite care to help and support them and their families through good times and bad."
