ACCLAIMED string quartet the Zehetmair Quartet has won a 2003 Gramaphone Award and been shortlisted for Record of the Year.
The news comes as the Northern Sinfonia, whose musical director, Thomas Zehetmair, formed the quartet, prepares to open its core series on Thursday, September 25, with another chance to hear the Sage Gatehead centre's commission of Philip Cashian's Tableaux, which was premiered at the BBC Proms in July.
Guest conductors and soloists joining the sinfonia this season include Thierry Fischer, James Gilchrist, Peter Donohoe, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Harry Christophers, Neeme Jarvi, Imogen Cooper and Christopher Maltman
