THE oldest police constable in Durham Constabulary retired this week.
At 59-years-old PC Tony Burn was the oldest serving PC in the county when he retired from Spennymoor police station on Monday.
PC Burn left his farming family roots, in Crook, when he was 29 to join the force and served two probationary years at Spennymoor police station and two years with Spennymoor CID.
He then had a spell with a crime support unit working from Newton Aycliffe, on a technical support covering five forces and four years as beat officer for Ferryhill.
When Spennymoor's new £2m station opened in November 2001, PC Burn asked to see out the rest of his 30 years service in the town he started at. The married father-of-two said: "I was pleased to complete my service at Spennymoor, where I started out and now live, probably the best thing about serving 30 years in the Sedgefield division has been the comradeship."
PC Burn is looking forward to spending more time with his wife Hazel and five-year-old grandson, Thomas.
