A WEAR Valley athlete has an extra incentive to finish this Sunday's Great North run in double quick time.
Former paramedic Andrew Charles, from Witton Park, who will be celebrating his 51st birthday on the day, hopes to run the 13 miles in half the time it took to run the London marathon in 1992.
He is asking sponsors for £5 for each minute he shaves off his target time of 43.4 minutes, but every minute he goes over will cost him £5.
The money will go to the Intermediate Technology Development Group, which provides practical help to communities in less developed countries.
Sponsors can contact Mr Charles on (01388) 605925.
