RADIO listeners have the chance to snap up a bargain and help one of Durham's most popular charities.
On Saturday, Durham Local Radio (DLR), which is on a month-long trial broadcast on 107 MHz FM, is holding a charity auction for St Cuthbert's Hospice.
Between 10am and 2pm, presenters Hugh Evans and Brian Clough will invite phone bids for about 25 items.
These include signed Sunderland and Newcastle shirts, tea for four at Seaham Hall, a VIP London Leisure pass, gym membership, a dinner for two, driving and piano lessons, and chances to host your own show on DLR or to be Durham City FC's match-day mascot and two season tickets.
Hugh, who hosts the station's weekday breakfast show and is programme manager, said: "The hospice is a worthy cause and we'd love to raise no less than £1,000. Every single penny raised will go to St Cuthbert's. Doing a live charity auction is great fun and it will be one of the best days of the month's broadcasting.''
Ann Weir, hospice fundraising assistant, said: "I think it is wonderful that so many generous people have donated things to be auctioned to help the hospice.
"We do rely on the generosity of local people, businesses and organisations. This auction is tremendous.''
People will be able to bid on Saturday by ringing 0191-383 2659 or 0191-375 7757.
The station, which runs until Sunday, September 28, hopes to win the permanent radio licence for the city.
