WHEELCHAIR users have been showing off their moves at dance classes.
The sessions, held in Sunderland, were organised as part of the Bite Size Intros campaign, which is offering adults across Tyne and Wear a range of free two-hour taster sessions designed to whet their appetites for learning.
It followed a request from the Scope charity, which designed the course with the help of the City of Sunderland College.
About 30 disabled people have already signed up to learn dances such as the waltz and tango.
Gerard Pattison, from Sunderland, said: "I've really enjoyed the dancing.
"I'd really like the opportunity to continue dancing at Scope and socially as well."
Sunderland and District Scope learning co-ordinator Heather Hepple said: "The wheelchair dancing sessions have been a great success under this format and have allowed participants to express themselves freely, gain confidence and learn some traditional and modern moves."
Tutors hope the sessions will encourage people to go on to further studies in drama, dance, music and the media.
