GARDEN waste and cardboard have been added to the items that can be collected for recycling from homes in parts of Richmondshire.
Richmond, Scotton and Catterick Village are piloting the scheme, which aims to reduce the amount of rubbish sent to landfill sites.
More than 5,000 households are supplied with biodegradable green bags that can be filled with cardboard, grass-cuttings and other garden waste. The bags are collected every fortnight and are taken to a local farm, where waste is shredded, composted and used as a soil conditioner.
