STUDENTS in Darlington are being targeted by thieves who approach them for cash.
Four incidents where two men have stolen money from youngsters have been reported.
Detectives believe more thefts have taken place and are appealing to victims to contact them.
Detective Sergeant Jeff Pow, of Darlington police, said the incidents happened in the town centre and near Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College. The victims were students aged 16 to 18.
"They are picking on lone people and initially they ask for a relatively small amount of money. Then when the wallets come out they steal more money," he said.
"There has been no violence but they have rifled through pockets and the way they stand makes the victims feel intimidated. None have offered any resistance and various amounts have been taken, from very little to £10 or £15."
Anyone who thinks they may have been approached by the men is asked to call police on (01325) 467681.
* Two men have been arrested in connection with the thefts and released on bail pending further inquiries.
