STEPPING OUT: A series of walks will be launched next month to encourage people to improve their health and fitness. The Stepping Out Health Walks will begin with a taster session at 11am on Wednesday, October 1. BATTY BECK: Nature lovers are invited to an event to find out more about bats inhabiting a Hartlepool beauty spot. A bat walk will take place at Greatham Beck, one of the town's four Local Nature Reserves on Tuesday, from 6.45pm to 8pm. Store gifts: Staff from the Middlesbrough, Billingham and Thornaby branches of Asda will visit the University of Teesside, Middlesbrough, today with give aways for new students, together with gift cards and a raffle tickets. They will give goodie bags to 100 students.

care homes: Hartlepool Borough Council has received a planning application from the Trustees of Hospital of God, Greatham Hospital, Greatham, to build a 35-bedroom care home, convert Greatham Hall into administrative offices, convert Brother House into sheltered alms houses, convert the estate offices to residential units and provide additional car parking.

SURGERIES RESTART: Linthorpe, Middlesbrough, ward councillors Steve Bloundele and Martin Booth, will restart their surgeries from Tuesday, holding the first one at St Barnabas Church Hall. On the second Tuesday of the month, a surgery will be held at the Friends Meeting House on Cambridge Road and, on the fourth Tuesday, at St Barnabas Church Hall on St Barnabas Road.
ROAD WORKS: Temporary traffic signals are in use on Larkswood Road, Redcar, as Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council carry out traffic calming work.
