WARTIME sweethearts who fell in love at a wedding are celebrating their diamond anniversary today.
Molly and Arthur Wells, both 83, who live at Kemplah House, a sheltered housing scheme in Guisborough, were married on September 18, 1943.
Mr Wells, also known as Kit, took leave from the Navy in 1940 to be best man at a wedding and asked the groom if his bride had a sister.
Mr Wells said as soon as he met Molly he knew she was the one. "From that moment on I was completely captured and nothing else in the world mattered," he said.
The couple were engaged but he had to go away to work for two and a half years.
"Whatever happened we never missed a day writing to each other," said Mr Wells.
He arrived home for good on September 14, 1943 and, four days later, they tied the knot.
"That was 60 years ago but our love for each other remained strong and true and we are still as much in love as we were then," said Mr Wells.
Mr and Mrs Wells have three children, eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
