BYGONE BIKES: This weekend's cycling event provides a chance to see rare examples of the bicycle builders art, with bikes, trikes and penny farthings.
As part of the museum's golden anniversary celebrations, the event runs from 10am to 4.30pm.
GIRL TALK: Ladies of all ages are invited to make friends at Egglescliffe Community Centre, Durham Lane, Eagles-cliffe. The Ladies Section meets on alternate Thursdays at 7.45pm for talks, demon-strations and socials. Next Thursday there will be a poetry reading which is a change to the programme. New members are welcome.
QUIZ NIGHT: A general knowledge quiz is being held on Saturday, September 27, at 7.30pm, at the Egglescliffe Community Centre, Durham Lane, Eaglescliffe. Tickets cost £3 for members and £3.50 for non-members. A pie and peas supper is included in the price but please supply own drinks. For tickets, call (01642) 651095 or (01642) 652476.
HARVEST FESTIVAL: Pupils of Yarm School will celebrate harvest festival next Friday. Pupils of the preparatory school are collecting tins and packet food, to be packed into shoeboxes and distributed to local residential and sheltered accommodation. Donations of food for pets will be passed on to animal sanctuaries and any cash donations will go to support local charities.
FRENCH CLASS: There are vacancies in the French adult education class at Yarm Methodist Church. For details call (01642) 700223. The classes are held from 7pm to 9pm and are suitable for people with some knowledge of French.
COFFEE MORNING: There will be a coffee morning at Egglescliffe Community Centre, Durham Lane on Friday, next week, from 9.30am to noon to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief. There will also be a cake stall, scones and a raffle.
EVENT CANCELLED: The David Curtis Ensemble (formerly of Opera Nova) was to have featured in the Rogers and Hammerstein musical evening at Yarm Fellowship Hall, West Street, on September 27. Unfortunately this has been cancelled.
HALL IMPROVEMENTS: The trustees of the Yarm Fellowship Hall, West Street, have made improvements to the facilities. A stage lighting system was funded by Awards for All. Chairs have been replaced with a grant from the Arts Council and a grant from the Rothley Trust was put towards an electric piano.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Home-Start Teesside is one of about 300 schemes in the UK which offers hope and friendship to families with children under five-years-old. Home-Start volunteers work with families in their homes. Other volunteers run Family Support Groups. More volunteers are needed. For details, call (01642) 501811.
