DARLINGTON millionaire businessman Duncan Bannatyne has applied to further extend the Grange Hotel in Southend Avenue.
The grade II listed hotel was acquired by Mr Bannatyne, chairman of Bannatyne Fitness, in 1998 through his company, Crme de la Crme.
The company wants to build a four-storey extension with 15 bedrooms and a function room on the site of the existing conference room.
If agreed by the council planning committee on Wednesday, it will become the third significant extension at the hotel, which now has 45 bedrooms.
The council has received a letter saying the scheme is unacceptable to the owners of flats at neighbouring Westcliffe Court, who are concerned about the visual impact of the proposed extension.
It also says access to the hotel is unclear and people regularly drive around the residents' private land looking for the hotel entrance
