In the first round of the Darlington Motor Factors-sponsored Division Two Cup Berlins won a five-goal thriller with Hole In The Wall, the winner coming in extra time with a golden goal.
Hole In The Wall started brightly, and they had numerous chances before they finally took the lead through Nigel Todd with a superb shot from outside the box that dipped over inexperienced Berlins keeper Paul Spinks. The stand-in keeper could only watch as a 40 yard free kick from Stuart Fawcett sailed into the net. Going into the break 2-0 down Berlins came out in the second half and took control of the game, two goals from Lowry and Shaw brought the side level. This kick-started the home side into action and superb over head kick by Mark Spence almost produced a goal unfortunately he was in his own penalty area. With the home side creating chance after chance they almost paid the penalty when Berlins burst through the home sides defence in the final few minutes only for a last ditch tackle by Andrew Sidebottom to save the day for the Hole in the Wall. Extra time continued in the same pattern until a through ball caught the home side's centre back paring of Applegarth and Sidebottom static, as Salisbury slotted home the golden goal.
Copper Beech DCS played hosts to Smurfit. The teams went into the break level at 0-0 but an injury and a red card for the home side left them with only nine men and the visitors fired home six goals. Paul Tils, Dave Raine grabbed one each and a brace for Stuart Ford and Fred Wood completed the scoring.
Pepper Draughting Services services secured their place in the next round with a 3-1 win away to Peacocks Pub Co.
