Kirby Sigston will win the championship if they defeat Thimbleby in their final game of the season tomorrow.

Last weekend they were involved in a double programme and secured victories over East Harlsey and Kildale.

In the first match of the double programme they restricted East Harlsey to 77 all out as Robert Cowton took four wickets for 28 runs, Clarkson had four for 35 and Neil Kendrew two for nine. Hodgson with 32 top performed with the bat for the visitors.

When they made first use of the wicket Kirby Sigston ended with 145 for five on the board, the total including 36 by Clarkson and 27 apiece by Thompson and Day. Grainge was the pick of the East Harlsey bowlers taking three of the five wickets to fall for 57 runs.

On Sunday Kirby Sigston visited Kildale and won by eight wickets. Despite 37 not out by Jamie Pearson and 29 from Andy Blackett Kildale found the bowling of Robert Cowton difficult and he took his weekend total of wickets to ten when he captured another six at a cost of 50 runs.

Kildale were all out for 119, a target which the leaders over took losing just two wickets as Bernie Lowther carried his bat for 62.

Broughton and Kirby are second just two points adrift of Kirby Sigson with four points at stake from their final match of the season at home to Ingleby Greenhow. They too completed a weekend double first seeing off the challenge from Thimbleby before winning at Chopgate on Sunday. Thimbleby managed only 99 which included 23 by Middlemass and 25 by Cloughton as Blayden captured four wickets for nine runs and Briddick three for 26. Broughton and Kirby secured the necessary runs losing three wickets with Robinson scoring 34 and Scott 40.

Broughton and Kirby followed up Saturday's victory visiting Chopgate where they also secured the maximum four points.

Skelton Castle lost both their matches. First, they were beaten by Maltby despite scoring 174 for four as Loughran ended unbeaten on 50 and Hurst contributed 33. Replying Maltby had seven wickets in hand as Close ended undefeated on 87 and Morrow added 35 to the total of 175 for three.

In Sunday's fixture Skelton Castle were all out for 82 against Scruton who won with seven wickets remaining as Robert Craig ended undefeated on 57. Brian Barritt returned three for 19 and Steve Brass had three for 31 when Skelton Castle batted first totalling 82 which included a top scoring 23 by Allen.

Ingleby Greenhow were another side to lose twice but have still enjoyed a much better season with six wins to their credit. Visiting Hutton Rudby they fell just 23 runs short of a winning margin despite needing to score 198. Green (35), Jones (93) and Gilchrist (33no) led Hutton Rudby to 197 for four with Jones taking three of the four wickets for 41 runs.

When they replied Ingleby Green were indebted to opening batsman Cameron-Clark for his 92

but despite Staples adding 28 and Fawcett 27 the innings only produced a total of 175 for eight with Cook claiming four wickets for 43 runs.

On Sunday Ingleby Greenhow managed 138 for nine including 41 by Simon Staples when they met Crathorne. Clemmitt took four wickets for 64 runs and Bruce four for 39 after Crathorne, batting first, had realised 198 for seven. Whitfield top scored with 57 and both Samarage and Swales scored 38. Dan Birdsall was the most successful bowler in the Ingleby Greenhow attack with an analysis of three for 53.

Crathorne were also successful in their first fixture defeating Chopgate by43 runs. Bruce with 70 and Clemmitt (39) led Crathorne to 198 for seven even though Stockton took three wickets for 36 runs and Vout had three for 63 for Chopgate who in response posted 155 for eight. Holmes opened the batting for Chopgate and was still there at the end undefeated on 63 while for Crathorne Bruce produced good form with the ball claiming figures of four for 33.
