A DIY store manager has given up his job to open a flower shop.
Russell Sawdon has left the security of working for B&Q to open the florists in Hartburn, Stockton.
The shop, called Flowerhouse, carries on a tradition started by Mr Sawdon's parents, who owned a flower shop in the same town for 30 years.
Mr Sawdon has taken charge of the unit next door to where his parents had their business.
He has also employed his mother to help with the fledgling firm.
He said: "It has always been my dream to own my own business and with my mum working for me it is a very special time.
"I am leaving a secure and well-paid job to start this venture at a time when we have discovered that we are to have our first child - timing never was my strong point.
"I was brought up surrounded by flowers as my mum has worked for Carl Banks and Bowrons over the years and my first Saturday job was as a florist.
"This is more a lifestyle decision as it is a money decision and this is what makes it special."
