Spennymoor A clinched the League Championship with two matches remaining in the league programme after they won in the decider at Sherburn Village.
Paul Atkinson gave the Moors a great start when he put in the highest break of the season with 84 in the first frame. Michael Pratt took the second frame for the Moors but then the home side fought back to level with wins from John Bower and Peter McGowan. In the decider, Paul Biddle took the Moors to victory and the Championship with a win over Alan Greener.
The relegation position in the First Division is much more complex. Willington slipped one point behind when they lost to the visiting Newton Aycliffe. Arthur Goldsborough put Willington ahead but then the visitors' had wins from Ronnie Hall, Mark Howe and Michael Hewitt with Tom Parking taking the final frame for the home side.
Brandon and Witton Gilbert are just one ahead of Willington following their odd point home victories. Brandon fought back from a two points deficit to beat the visiting Shotton Palms. John Armstrong and Jimmy Evans junior put the Palms ahead but Graham Jackson and Brian Graham levelled. In the decider Brandon's Kevin Sample beat Barry Hall.
Witton Gilbert raced into a three points lead over the visiting Fishburn A with wins from Willis Joynes, Ian Renwick and John Rooney senior. The visitors' eased their relegation worries when John Griffin and Brian Quest took the last two points. However these results leave Fishburn A, Sherburn Village and Shotton Palms just one point ahead of Brandon and Witton Gilbert.
Wheatley Hill A held on to second place in the First Division despite losing the decider at Newhouse. The home side went two up with John Maddox putting in a 32 break and Paul Wright a 31 break. Dave Walker and Ronnie Peacock levelled the match but then Harry Dinsdale took Newhouse to victory by beating Alan Hall.
In a vital promotion battle in the Second Division, Meadowfield won the decider at Spennymoor B to stay in top place. Meadowfield went two up with wins from Malcolm Hughes and John Jackson. The Moors equalised with wins from Phil Wilson and Micky Anderson but Craig Hughes took the visitors' to victory with a win over Alan Rouell.
Crowtrees remain just a point behind Meadowfield after beating the visiting Crook Belle Vue by the odd point. The home side went two up in fortunate circumstances when Sean Johnston won when John Warriner went in-off the black and then Peter Laverick won by potting the final black. Sonny Hann stepped up to ensure victory by taking the third frame. Harold Lomax took the fourth for Crook and then Derek Potts pulled off a great win for Crook when he beat Steven Armstrong, who lost his lead to Micky Anderson of Spennymoor B in the race for the most wins in the division.
Stanley Central slipped four points behind Crowtrees when they went down by the odd point to the visiting Langley Park. Stephen Coates, Peter Morgan and Ray Coates took the Park to victory with Harry Grimes and Walter Cornell replying for the Central.
Wingate beat the visiting Ferryhill by the odd point. Dean Jones, Jimmy Mason and John Bourne won for Wingate with Dave Robson, who was making a welcome return to the league, and Bernie Jones taking points for Ferryhill.
Wheatley Hill B were never headed when they beat the visiting Durham City in the decider. Steve Cave put the Hill ahead but Brian Dunn levelled. Tony Ellison restored the home lead but John Davies again pulled Durham level. In the decider the Hill's Dave Blyth beat Michael Pratt.
The promotion places from the Third Division rest between Bearpark, who are one ahead of Coundon and two ahead of New Durham. Bearpark entertained Coundon and went down by the odd point.
New Durham were never headed on their visit to Tow Law A and went through to win the decider. Neil Phillips put the visitors ahead but Charlie Donaghy levelled. Kevin Scullion restored the New Durham lead only to see Heppell Hodgson equalise. In the decider Brian Birks took New Durham to victory when he beat Tommy Williams.
Leeholme B made their second consecutive win when they beat the visiting Tow Law B in the decider. Christopher Davison put the home side ahead only to see John Wilson equalise. Lee Todd restored the home lead but Lee Stockdale levelled. In the decider Leeholme's Mark Brown beat Adam Orton.
Fishburn B took the first three frames against the visiting Sacriston with wins from Jamie Hodgson, George Whitelock and Winston Hodgson. The home side fought back with wins from Kevin Laing and Jeff Evans.
Leeholme A were twice ahead at Hunwick but then went down in the decider. Anthony Forster put the visitors ahead but Tom Ward levelled. Lawrence Jones restored the visitors' lead only to see Barry Fleming equalise. In the decider Des Mason beat Ian North.

Crook League
The new season will start on Wednesday, October 8 but would like to have three more teams to make up 12 teams in the two divisions. The league plays with six players on each team with all playing one singles frame and then the team captain nominates two of the players to play the doubles frame. Besides the league competition, there is a knock-out cup, singles championship and doubles championship.
