Dale Jordan of Middlesbrough College is Cleveland's representative in the final of the English Schools Decathlon championship at Sheffield on Saturday and Sunday.
He qualified for the final by his performance in the Northern finals at York two months ago.
Throughout the summer he has been racking up points for the junior and senior men's teams particularly in the hurdles and pole vault and last month at Hexham he was the only athlete to complete the Blitz Decathlon in which nine disciplines have to be completed in under one hour with the final event, the 1500m, starting on the 60-minute mark.
Jordan has represented Cleveland at the Track and Field finals in the past, but this will be his debut in the multi-events championship final and he will be hoping to beat the 5,000 points barrier.
The event gets under way at 11am on Saturday with the 100m with the 400m scheduled for 6pm. The 110m hurdles starts the second day at 9am with the 1500m expected to start at around 5.30pm.
