A 57-YEAR-OLD man appeared in court at Harrogate yesterday to face indecent assault charges.
Ronald Turner, of North End, Long Marston, near York, was remanded on bail until October 2. Turner faces two allegations of indecent assault on the same woman on September 11, one of them is alleged to have occurred in Long Marston, the other in nearby Tockwith.
NEW SESSIONS: The Colburn Health and Recreation Centre has confirmed a programme of keep fit classes will start at the beginning of October. The building will be open later in the evening to meet demand from October 6, offering classes in body toning, Khai Bo, aerobics and circuit-training, with a creche also available on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. COPTER BASE: RAF Leeming will be playing host to four Merlin helicopters from RAF Benson for the next two weeks. They will be taking part in fighter evasion training as part of their aircrews' operational conversion course.
CHURCH CONCERT: Vocal quintet Quintessential will be giving a concert at St Michael and All Angels' Church, Spennithorne, Leyburn, on September 27, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 and available by calling (01969) 624965, at Towler's newsagents or on the door. Proceeds to church funds.
CHRISTIAN WOMEN: Mike and Becky Ducker will be the speakers at an event next Thursday, at 7.30pm, in the Golden Lion, Northallerton, held by the Christian women's fellowship Aglow International.
MILK AWARD: Ripon dairy farmer, Colin Nicholson, of Castiles Farm, has been named as runner-up in the Pfizer Quality Milk Award for his high standard milk, and meticulous attention to the welfare of his herd of 123 Holstein Friesians. He receives £1,000, a trophy and certificate for his achievements.
BEST PUB: The Cleveland branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) has awarded the Dolphin Hotel, in King Street, Robin Hood's Bay, the title of Summer Pub of the Season. The pub, run by Dave and Ellen Mason, has received the award for its commitment to real ale and the condition in which it is served.
SAFETY CHAMPS: Experts are on the lookout for youngsters to spread the road safety message at primary and junior schools in the Scarborough area. Each will appoint two pupils to be junior road safety officers and under the guidance of John Sheader they will promote road safety in their school.
MAYOR'S INVITATION: The Mayor of Richmond, Stuart Parsons, hosts a coffee morning in the town hall tomorrow. The event includes a raffle and tombola. More information is available by telephoning (01748) 850808.
SHOP'S BIRTHDAY: Staff at the St Leonard's Hospice shop in Haxby, York, celebrated ten years of trading with a champagne toast and a cake. The shop has 52 volunteers and 30 of them have been there since the shop opened.
