Durham County: Durham Counties' three teams entertained Humberside in the Region One Inter Counties Championship and came out even as they recorded one win, one draw and one defeat.

The men's A team came through to win 24-20 and hope ate least to maintain their second place in the A table. They had four wins from four matches from Simon Baker of Chester-le-Street, whilst there were three from four for Paul Armstrong of Shildon, Dave Harrop of Consett and Ian Staines of Chester-le-Street.

The men's B team hopes of improving on their third place in the B table were upset when they drew the match at 22 each. The Durham side had three wins from four outings for Nick Veuger of Durham, Tommy Crowther of Sacriston, Adrian Cavanagh of Consett and David Lowery of Durham.

The Ladies team went down by 19-25 with Helen Littlewood the leading home scorer with three wins from her four matches. This result gives the ladies no chance of improving on their present fourth place in the ladies league.

The Durham teams have no match during October. Their next match is away to North Yorkshire on Sunday, 2nd November.

Bishop Auckland and District League

Spennymoor Ash Tree missed a golden opportunity of moving to the top of the table when their rivals from Crook Olde Horse Shoe had their game postponed but the Tree went down by three points on their visit to Henknowle Manor A and now have to share the leadership. Crook Coach and Horses A are in third place, 19 points behind the joint leaders, but 17 ahead of Tow Law Station.

Henknowle Manor A had two singles points from Steve Webb with Ronnie Wright, Peter Mernor, Bob Webb and Bill Turner adding one each, whilst the Ash Tree replied with one point each from Richard Turner, Ronnie McAloon, Stephen Jones and Steve Hunter. The home side made certain of victory when Bill Turner and Peter Mernor won the doubles before Steve Webb and Paul Biddle shared the captains' points.

Bishop Auckland Snooker A edged to victory in the decider on their trip to Willington Brewer's Droop. The teams shared the singles with the Brewer's having two points from Billy Wragg and one each for Jimmy Fleming, Stephen Britton and Brett Fleming, whilst the visitors replied with two points from Darren Moffatt and one each from Alan Dickenson, Peter Thompson and Craig Marley. The visitors moved ahead when Peter Thompson and Darren Moffatt won the doubles but Billy Wragg took the first captain's game to level only lost the second and deciding captain's game to Wayne Hewitt.

Tow Law Scottish Courage League

League leaders, Tow Law Dan's Castle A went down by the odd point at home to Tow Law New Market B. The only singles points for the Castle came from Anthony Hird and Colin Armstrong, whilst the visitors had wins from John Beveridge, Gavin Tennant, David Spencer and Ray Weir. The New Market B then got the vital fifth point when Tom Carter and Gavin Tennant took the first doubles, but it was damage limitation for the Castle when they took the two remaining doubles.

Durham and District League

Horden Big Club made their debut in the league when they entertained fellow newcomers, Sacriston Daisy Hill B and went down in the deciding captain's game. It was different story for the other newcomers from Spennymoor Voltigeur, who raced through to massive victory over the visiting Ushaw Moor Winnings, who only managed to take one point.

At Horden the Daisy Hill team took command of the early stages and raced into a 5-1 lead at the break, but the home settled and ran through the second half with a 5-1 success leaving the result resting on the captain's game. The home side had two wins from Ged Evans and one each from Gary deluce, James Evans, Shaun Williams and James Mason. Daisy Hill's points came from Helen Littlewood and Chris Bowran with two each and one each from Brian Clamp, Andrew Morley and Steve Thompson.

Crook Town A shot to the top of the table after they only dropped three points to the Crook Town B team. The B team's points came from Darren Tinkler with two and Johnny Mason with one. The A team had Jim Ainsley, Neil Campbell, Aaron Cowan, David Haygarth and Michael Burke all with two points each, whilst Steve Liddle added one.
