Sutton on Forest provided the attractive setting for the inaugural running of the Sutton 7 over a flat course.
Alan Somers finished in 32nd place in 49.12, Geoff Bullock 45th, and 3rd in his age group, in 51.28, Paul Goacher 48th in 52.10, Ian Codling 70th in 56.32, Fiona Wilson 89th in 61.13 and Marian Codling 115th and 3rd in her age group, in 69.09. 133 finishers enjoyed this well organised and friendly race.
Two races in the Club Championship brought a large club entry in each. Thirty-two members ran in the ever popular Tholthorpe 10K. Richard Hall finished in 10th place in 35.23, Cameron Choules 17th in 36.37, Gary Dunn 19th in 36.56, sixteen year old Oliver Harrison 29th in 37.36 just ahead of his more senior teammate Merv Burn in 37.43, David Granger 37th in 38.23, Stewart Mechie 57th in 40.05, David Jestin 68th in 40.49, Angela Hall 71st in 40.52, Richard Soper 82nd in 41.59, David Read 86th in 42.42, Ernie Huck 90th in 43.00, Alan Somers, Alasdair Thorpe and Stephan Tomazsewski in quick succession in 96th, 97th and 98th places respectively, in 43.14, 43.15 and 43.17 minutes. Alan Wikeley finished in 113th place in 44.21, David Shorrocks 119th in 44.53, Paul Knight 127th in 45.22, Hywel Smith 138th in 45.55, Steve Harrison 139th in 45.57, Peter Scanlon 173rd in 48.20, Ian Codling 177th in 48.24, Pat Kirby 178th in 48.29, Kaye Mechie 180th in 48.37, Nicola Thorpe 206th in 50.39, Fiona Wilson 234th in 53.07, Sarah Somers 242nd in 53.44, Judith Seaton 251st in 54.32, Sally Harrison 283rd in 56.59, Marian Codling 295th in 58.18, Chris McAleenan 327th in 61.12 and Pamela Sherlock 331st in 61.50. There were 364 finishers in this race, which was held in near perfect conditions.
A larger than usual number of members entered the ninth in the Summer Series of Fell Races, Cock Howe and Beyond, a race of just over six miles. The race was won by Andy Burt of Acorn in 40.59 with Merv Burn finishing in 4th place in 42.09. Peter Wilkin came 7th in 43.10, Cameron Choules 15th in 45.19, Richard Soper 25th in 46.51, Alan Somers 44th in 50.45, Angela Hall and Alan Wikeley in 45th and 46th, given the same time, 50.46, and David Read 47th in 50.48, Hywel Smith 59th in 53.14, David Shorrocks 66th in 54.20, Alasdair Thorpe 72nd in 55.45, William Hayward 85th in 58.26, Nigel Morgan 88th in 60.09, Nicola Thorpe 90th in 60.24, Pat Kirby 91st in 60.28, Ian Codling 93rd in 62.30, Fiona Wilson 95th in 62.49, Kaye Mechie 97th in 65.21, Pamela Sherlock 98th in 80.00 and Marian Codling 99th in 84.21. The men's teams finished in 1st, 6th and 9th places on the night, with the ladies' teams in 3rd and 4th places.
After the race, presentations were made to Series winners. Caroline Pollard finished in 2nd place and Angela Hall 9th overall in the Women's competition, Alan Wikeley came 6th in the V50 Men's group, and Pat Kirby was 2nd in the V50 Women's group.
