A £250,000 multi-use games area was officially opened in Stockton yesterday.
The Arlington Park facility, which is based in the grounds of Bowesfield Primary School, has a floodlit playing surface that can be used for football, netball, basketball and mini hockey.
It also contains changing rooms and an outdoor classroom, available for residents to use for training and community activities.
It was officially opened by retired headteacher of Bowesfield School, Ray Pallister.
A residents' based trust will manage the new facility.
Chairman Alex Bain said: "The project has been several years in the pipeline and the community is delighted to have such an excellent facility in the heart of Parkfield.
"We already have more than 100 registered members and interest in the sports facility is tremendous."
Funding came from Space and Sport, the Arts Programme, Neighbourhood Renewal, the Single Regeneration Budget and Neighbourhood Management.
