With eight clubs on Durham Minor Cup duty, only one league game took place and Greyhound made it know that they will be one of the title contenders come the end of the season with a 4-0 defeat of Killinghall Arms, who also have title aspirations.
The Ferryhill side took the lead after 13 minutes when Jamie Watson lashed home following a goalmouth scramble.
Alan Robson added the second on 23 minutes when he volleyed home Kurt Burleigh's pinpoint cross. Killie came back into the game and it was not until the 87th minute that the points were made safe when sub Michael Armstrong tapped in an Alan Robson cross.
Peter Robson then beat three players in the final minute and completed the scoring.
It is a shame when clubs from the same League are drawn against one another in the first round of a County Cup and this meant an early exit for Shuttle and Loom beaten 3-0 by East End WMC and Grey Horse, who lost to Barnard Castle. Grey Horse lead 2-0 at the interval with goals from David Palmer and Michael Weston. Barney levelled after the break through Robert Hudson and Dale Dryden and Ben Rathbone clinched a 3-2 win with what truly was a "golden goal".
It was a case of deja vu at Heighington, where the home side looked to be heading for their first win of the season as they lead 2-0 courtesy of a brace from Nigel Gambling. But Hartlepool the Warrior came storming back to level matters in normal time and take the tie with another 'golden goal'. DGSOB were too strong for Church League outfit Skerne Park and gained a comfortable 7-2 victory to progress to the second round.
