Sunderland Scorpions gave a debut to Great Britain international Gemma Watt and she tucked away a penalty shot as Scorpions crushed Basingstoke Lady Bison 26-0 in a women's premier league match.
Watt's goal was Scorpions' fourth at 04.54 after Claire Oldfield (2) and Teresa Lewis had struck earlier. By the end of the first period Scorpions had scored eight, four of those from Oldfield.
Another 11 goals came in the middle period which brought hat-tricks to Lewis and Lynsey Emmerson. Lady Bison netminder Joanna Boyce did well to keep the score down as Sunderland were shooting from all angles.
Boyce took a couple of knocks during the match which caused two stoppages, but nothing too serious. In total Boyce faced 113 shots and was deservedly her side's man of the match. Scorpions' top scorer Claire Oldfield was their man of the match recipient.

Sunderland Tomahawks lost both of their English U19 North A League matches at the weekend. Kingston Predators with two wins already this season had to work hard for a 4-2 victory at the Telewest Arena. It was not until six minutes that they went ahead and Jonny Heslop equalised at 14.15 on the powerplay.
Kingston scored short-handed either side of the first interval to go 3-1 ahead. Sunderland were also short-handed when they cut the deficit at 33.15 from a Jeremy Lundin strike. Predators' final goal came in the 45th minute.
Sheffield Steelhawks hosted Tomahawks on Sunday and won 11-2. Sheffield, one of the title favourites, led after four minutes before Heslop levelled the match at 11.14 on the powerplay.
Two goals in the 17th minute and four in six minutes during the middle session eased Sheffield into a 7-1 lead after two periods. Dean Holland scored Tomahawks' second in the 49th minute.

Sunderland Arrows lost 5-1 at home to Sheffield Rapiers in the English U16 North A League. Rapiers got off to a good start scoring twice in the opening nine minute. The lead was doubled with two strikes in as many minutes for 4-0 at 18.13.
Arrows' persistence paid off ten minutes later when Daniel Murdy struck the consolation reply. Rapiers completed the scoring in the final minute.

A close encounter between Billingham Wolves and Whitley Bay Braves in the English U19 North A League ended all square at 1-1. Braves' netminder Stephen Hoult kept his side well in the game turning away 62 of the 63 shots that rained in on his goal. During the middle period he faced 37 shots to go with his 19 from the first and it was Braves that led 1-0 from two periods, Robert Wilson, giving Whitley the lead at 32.09 converting a powerplay.
Wolves kept plugging away and they drew level in the 45th minute from Andrew Thornton.

Sunderland Commanches entertained Sheffield Stormers in the English U14 North A League and were narrowly beaten 2-1. All the goals came in six minutes in the middle period. Stormers went ahead short-handed at 23.42 and on the same powerplay Danny Lamb levelled the scores 28 seconds later.
Sheffield regained their lead at 29.39 which they held on to for victory.

In the same league Whitley Mohawks hosted Kingston Aeros and suffered a 13-2 defeat. Aeros led 2-0 before Callum Watson opened Mohawks account. Kingston added two more before the interval.
Mohawks' Andrew Wood and Aeros' Stephen Lee clashed 43 seconds into the final period with both players being ejected from the game.
Christopher Pyle netted Whitley's second goal at 29.24 by which time Kingston were 10-1 ahead. They added a further three to complete the scoring.

In the U14 North B League Sunderland Mohicans lost 7-4 to Grimsby Vikings. Joshua Lalande opened Mohicans' account after Grimsby had gone ahead. Daniel Coffey and Joseph Royle added to Mohicans' score to put them 3-1 ahead at 17.44.
Grimsby were level by the end of the middle period and a further three at the start of the final period for 6-3 put Vikings in control.
Jake Shanks netted Mohicans' fourth at 41.16 and Grimsby rounded off with their seventh in the final minute.

Sunderland Cherokees were held to a 5-5 draw at Teleford Venom in the English U12 North A League. Jack Watkins and Michael Elder put Cherokees 2-0 ahead after 65 seconds. Venom pulled a goal back before a Callum Davies brace made it 4-1 at 09.04.
Three goals in the second period from Telford made it 4-4. Watkins restored Cherokees' advantage at 34.54 only for the spoils to be shared with Telford's fifth two minutes from time.

Whitley Bay Mischief U10 North and Midlands League trip to Solihull Saints was played as a challenge match as Mischiefs did not have sufficient players. However, they won 31-7. Kate Ord, who scored seven in her last game against Sunderland, struck 13 in this encounter. Ord, Andrew Cook and Harry Harley had all reached hat-tricks as Mischiefs led 21-4 at the interval, Ord having scored ten.
Both Cook and Harley ended up with six goals apiece while Andrew Pearson and Jonny Zajac struck double while Ben Richards and Christian Johnson weighed in with one apiece.

Sunderland Apaches lost both of their U10 challenge games at the weekend. Telford Turtles went 2-0 ahead in the opening two minutes. Matthew Thrumble scored Apaches' first at 09.05.
Turtles led 4-1 before Thrumbles' second at 30.31 brought Apaches within touching distance only for Telford to strike back with a further three for a 7-2 victory.
Kingston River Rates came away 4-2 winners at the Telewest against Apaches. They led 3-0 before Helen Emerson opened Apaches' account. The three-goal cushion was restored before Luke Shanks grabbed a second for Apaches.

English National Hockey League North
Billingham Bombers met Whitley Warriors at the Forum Ice Arena in ENHL North which finished 5-3 in favour of the visitors. Whitley Bay Bombers welcomed back Brian Perry, Craig Hill, Simon Burns and Ian Richardson from the side that lost 5-4 to Sunderland Chiefs a week ago. Warriors added Andrew Wile, Garry Wood, Robert Cairns and latest signing Paul Watson from last week's squad that won 8-2 over Kingston Jets.
Bombers went ahead in the tenth minute through Perry and Lee Baxter on the powerplay levelled things up after 25 minutes. Ten minutes later Paul Graham put Whitley ahead for the first time in the game.
Warriors fell into penalty trouble with Robert Wilson in the dressing room for attempted butt-ending. This allowed Bombers to go 3-2 ahead with goals from Paul Windridge and Perry at 41.43 and 43.03 respectively.
Whitley plugged away and Andrew Tindale tied the scores five minutes later on the powerplay. At 55.09 Tindale fired the visitors ahead.
Having pulled netminder Michael Snook in favour of an extra foward Tindale drove into an unguarded net for his hat-trick market with only 37 seconds left. This gave Whitley an insurance goal.

Michael Bowman has joined Findus British National League side Hull Stingrays and made his debut on Sunday against Newcastle KBS Vipers. Bowman spent last season with Newcastle, but was not offered a new contract. He had just signed for Whitley Warriors but had yet to play for Whitley.
