On September 17, The Northern Echo published an article about Miss Julie Yates' refusal to send her son to Branksome Comprehensive School, in Darlington, because of fears he would be bullied.
Miss Yates had lost an appeal to send her son to Longfield Comprehensive School.
We have been asked to make it clear that Branksome Comprehensive School staff were unaware of Miss Yates' concerns and had had no contact with the family. In fact, Branksome Comprehensive School is considered by the local education authority to be a model of good practice in dealing with bullying.
Although a response was published from Darlington Borough Council, we accept that Branksome Comprehensive School should have been given the opportunity to comment and we apologise for the embarrassment and distress caused.
