PLANS to change the use of a shop selling car parts into a hot food take-away, in Oxford Road, Hartlepool look likely to be refused.
Members of Hartlepool Borough Council's planning committee will meet on Wednesday to discuss plans to open the shop at the junction of Oxford Road and Eton Street. Residents have objected to the plans as they are concerned it will increase traffic in the area and become noisy at night. A report to the meeting recommends the plan is refused as it would adversely affect local residents with the noise, smell and general disturbance.
GUIDED RIDE: A guided cycle ride will take place tomorrow. The ride, called the Triple S Run, starts from Castle Eden Walkway's Visitors Centre at Thorpe Thewles at 10am and takes in the villages of Sadberge, Stainton and Stillington. The 20-mile route will take about three hours with stops for rests. The ride will be staffed by trained and experienced volunteer riders. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
HAVE A TRY: Children aged from eight to 14 will have the opportunity to try out activities ranging from basketball and football to trampoline and Kids Zone, at an activities day for youngsters at the Rainbow Leisure Centre, Coulby Newham, near Middlesbrough, on Sunday. COMMUNITY MEETING: Top Lakes Residents' Association is holding a meeting with Chief Inspector Adrian Roberts and Councillor Joyce Benbow, cabinet member for community safety, on Wednesday, October 1, at 6.30pm, at Grosmont Day Centre.
BANDSTAND CONCERT: South Bank Band will be performing at Saltburn bandstand on tomorrow from 2.30pm to 4pm. In the event of bad weather the concert will be held in Emmanuel Church.
HARVEST FUN: Newcomen Methodist Church will hold harvest thanksgiving celebrations at the church in Mersey Road, Redcar, on Saturday, September 27, at 7.30pm. There will be a faith supper and entertainment by the Redcar male voice choir. Admission is £2.50 and proceeds will go to a Third World charity.
FLAMES SPREAD: A rubbish fire in an alleyway behind Rochester Road, Linthorpe, Middlesbrough, spread to a private garage. About 30 per cent of the garage was destroyed.
FLAT FIRE: Firefighters attended a fire at a flat in Ashfield Avenue, Grove Hill, Middlesbrough, on Wednesday night. It caused fire damage to the front door and smoke damage to the hallway.
MAN RESCURD: A man was led to safety by firefighters, who were called to a house fire in Egerton Street, Middlesbrough. Crews arrived to find the house severely smoke-logged.
RACE NIGHT: There will be a race night next Saturday at the Cleveland Bay, in Redcar, at 8pm. Tickets cost £2.50 and include a pie and peas supper and are available by calling (01642) 481686.
