PROPOSALS to build two care homes in Darlington are to go before borough councillors for consideration this week.
St Martins Care has submitted plans to Darlington Borough Council, seeking permission for the development on the site of the vacant Lawns care home, which stands on land opposite Ridsdale Street.
The company says that the two-storey buildings would have 62-bed spaces each.
Darlington council officers are recommending that planning committee members approve the scheme when they meet on Wednesday.
A report to councillors says: "The building will be somewhat higher than some of the houses in the locality, but not of a scale which would merit refusal of planning permission."
