THE HEAD of Thornton-le-Dale primary school in North Yorkshire, Colin Babister, has died suddenly at the age of 57.
He had been head of the school for some 20 years after previously being deputy head of Catterick village school.
Mr Babister suffered a brain haemorrhage and died shortly afterwards.
Seven years ago he won the North Yorkshire regional competition for the National Teacher of the Year Award and was well-known in the education world throughout the county.
The beauty spot village is also in mourning for its oldest resident, Mrs Hannah Hodgson who has died at the age of 93, and retired joiner and undertaker Robin Barnes who was in his 80's.
