TWO teenagers from Teesside have joined 48 other youngsters on a tall ship journey to France.
Chris McCabe, from Stockton, and Michael Phillips, from Hartlepool, are taking part in the five-day Tall Ships Experience.
The intiative is run by the Sail Training Association and offers youngsters the chance to crew a 60sq metre sailing ship.
Chris, 17 and Michael, 16, are members of Connexions Tees Valley's ARCHway programme, which supports young people as they leave school and start training, college or a job.
Both boys have helped to raise their own funds for the voyage, and when they get back they hope to share their experiences of sea life with youth groups throughout Teesside.
Gordon Willis, ARCHway personal advisor, said: "It is a fantastic challenge for them both. Crewing a tall ship will present personal development opportunities that will be invaluable in life. It should be the experience of a lifetime."
