A SIX-year-old boy has won a £3.1m award for a medical blunder.
The money will be spent on the cost of caring for Keiran Hall, who can neither talk or walk.
The near record payout was awarded after the youngster's parents, Joe and Jean, took South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust to court in Middlesbrough, represented by a solicitor specialising in medical negligence claims.
It is understood the legal action stems from a mistake made at Keiran's birth at the then South Cleveland Hospital, Middlesbrough, in 1996.
A spokeswoman for the Trust said: "We understand it has been very difficult for the family and we are pleased it has been resolved.''
Keiran, who was born with cerebal palsy, was at Middlesbrough County Court when Judge Michael Taylor paid tribute to his parents for their selfless devotion.
He told the boy's family: "I am sure that Keiran will benefit from your continued love and care.''
The money will be held by the Court of Protection to provide for Keiran's needs throughout his life.
