Brompton (Northallerton) Juniors: Playing against Stokesley FC C, Brompton Under-10s began another solid game with Mark Watkinson in attack supported by Chris Holmes controlling central midfield throughout the majority of the first half.

Despite several incursions from right and left midfield by Robert Maclean and Thomas Armstrong, Stokesley took the lead midway through the first half with a fine strike by John Noble against the run of play, the ball struck the back of the net well out of reach of goalkeeper, Lee Taylor. Brompton continued to press throughout the first half with near misses from Chris Holmes and Thomas Armstrong. The fullback pairing of David Holmes and Daniel Macfarlane proved to be solid at the back with no Stokesley attack being able to penetrate the Brompton defence. These defenders continued to comfortably sweep up at the back and distribute the ball to Brompton midfield, which, through Chris Holmes, regularly pressured the Stokesley goal. Just before half-time Chris Holmes gathered the ball once again in midfield, took the ball past three men and let fly a shot from the edge of the box which found the back of the Stokesley net, leaving their goalkeeper standing.

The second half began well for Brompton with substitutes, Jack Cullen and David Foster, both making first-rate contributions. Brompton could have scored three or four goals in the first ten minutes, but lacked that final decisive finish which would have converted shots into goals. A goal finally resulted from a goalmouth scramble in which a valiant attempt by Thomas Armstrong rebounded and was finally powered into the net by Jack Cullen from one metre. After two games Brompton show that they have a solid defence with excellent play from Daniel Macfarlane and David Holmes and a skillful midfield led by the penetrating runs of Chris Holmes and the developing skills of Thomas Armstrong, but have yet to find a forward with a scoring touch despite valiant efforts from both Mark Watkinson and David Foster.

A hard game for the Under-10 B lads against a well organised Redcar side. Redcar took an early lead and added two others before Brompton had chance to settle. Redcar were the sharper team although Brompton battled to get their game going. The first half was Redcar's who went in 5-0 at half-time. The second half saw Brompton getting more into the game. However Redcar managed to score two further goals due to poor marking from Brompton. The main bright spots for Brompton were a lovely solo goal from George Austick which was well deserved and some outstanding goalkeeping from Oliver Welham who battled vainly to keep Redcar at bay. Final score 7-1 to Redcar.
