For the third year running Bedale Golf Club has hosted a competition under the auspices of the North East Professional Golfers Association in the person of Ray Sentence.
With the course in perfect condition three of the professionals equalled the professional course record namely DM Clark (Morpeth) B Rumney (Parklands) and SB McKenna (City of Newcastle) who all returned 69.
In the team results 124 was the winning score by Blaydon Trade Windows team of J Harmeston, B Mabbut, G Jobe with the professional JM Crawford followed by Market Best (Plant) Ltd Team of R Dickenson, B Ramsden, N Sanderson with professional G Bell who had a score of 128 in Third place with a score of 129 came Batemans Buddies Team of P Bowden, G Whitehead, D Bard with professional A Bateman with a score of 129.
Seniors Stableford
A large field this week no doubt influenced by the continuing good weather. Leading scores: 38 points Noel Winstanley (13) 37 pionts, Dennis Powers (20) and Brian Knapton (12) card countback required 35 points Ian Hodgson (18).
Ladies President Putter
With a gross 81 against a standard scratch of 73 Mavis Burton not only returned the lowest gross but with her handicap allowance also returned the best nett to win the competition. Leading scores: 69 Mavis Burton (12) 72 Shirley Bibby (21) 74 Marilyn Dawson (19) 75 Dulcie Exelby (30).
Ladies Invitation Day
A day when the ladies enjoy entertaining their friends to the pleasures of Bedale Golf Club and course which continues in excellent condition. The competition was played in stableford format with the following leading scores: 43 points Mavis Burton and Joyce Dowson 42 points Delma Bode and Pat Rutherford also Jackie French and Sandra Pearson. Nearest the pin ninth Pat Rutherford 12th Gillian Petrie 16th Angela Clinkard.
Dales Alliance
The first round of the autumn series of matches commenced at Richmond on Saturday. At the end of the spring series Crook were in the lead and this week's scores did not alter the position with Crook on 210 points, Richmond 204 points, Bedale 198 points, Thirsk and Northallerton 193 points, Blackwell Grange 192 points and Catterick Garrison 191 points. The individual prize winners were 45 points S Fountain and A Mayo (Crook) 44 points L Shaw and G Shaw (Crook) also S Griffiths and K Godden (Bedale) 43 points L Searle and J Bagley (Richmond).
The overall position after the first round is as follows: 1377 points Crook, 1334 points Richmond, 1315 points Catterick Garrison 1311 points Bedale, 1305 points Blackwell Grange and 1280 points Thirsk and Northallerton.
