Durham City Ladies were equal to Teesside opposition Marton for most of the match.
The first goal caught Durham's defence napping when the ball over the top left the Marton forward with an easy chance. Just before half time City had two chances to clear the danger from a corner before Marton went 2-0 up.
Eighteen-year-old Croatian, Yarata Qehaja, had a promising debut for Durham and came closest to scoring after a Charlotte Rimmer cross.
