RICHARD HANNON has awesome strength-in-depth as far as the two-year-old division is concerned and he looks like mopping up another major juvenile prize at Ascot today with Enford Princess (3.10).

There's a monster £250,000 up for grabs in the Watership Down Stud Sales Stakes at the top Berkshire venue and not surprisingly Hannon goes in mob-handed hoping to bag the majority of the prize money which stretches down to sixth place.

It's always possible to opt for the wrong one, but leading Irish jockey Richard Hughes would almost certainly have had the pick of Richard's runners and the fact he has plumped for Enford Princess speaks volumes for the dual-winning filly's ability.

Enford Princess had looked every inch a Group class performer following successive victories at Newmarket and Windsor, but then for some inexplicable reason she put in a real stinker at Headquarters in late May.

Never one to panic, Hannon probably always had this afternoon's jackpot in mind and has been content to rest the selection for the past four months with a view to bringing her back specifically for the extended six furlong contest.

In the opening Bollinger Champagne-sponsored Amateur Riders Handicap, in-form Newmarket trainer Neville Callaghan is fancied to land the bubbly with Montmartre (2.00). Montmartre has been the model of consistency, landing his latest success in silky-smooth fashion at Yarmouth.

Since this is the time of year when the three-year-olds often pulverise their older more exposed opponents, I reckon Montmartre can be confidently followed until the end of the season.

There's bound to be some upsets at Haydock where the rain-softened ground has attracted quite a large entry for most of the races.

One thus far disappointing individual likely to appreciate a bit of give underfoot is Night Pearl (3.00) in the Vale Nursery.

Although attracting market support on all three outings to date, Gerard Butler's raider has so far failed to deliver.

Maybe the predominately quick surfaces throughout the long hot summer were not to her liking, however, Night Pearl now has the perfect opportunity to put things right in the six furlong event.

In the later mile-and-a-quarter Vale UK Rated Stakes, Roger Charlton's Rocket Ship (4.10) must enter calculations.

Four months ago Rocket Ship beat Salsalino at Bath, form which has worked out exceptionally well when one considers the latter was made favourite to win the Ebor at York.

Charlton's three-year-old is clearly a class act and just for good measure he hasn't been that harshly treated by the Official Handicapper.
