A YOUNG singer has cut a demo record thanks to Durham's temporary radio station.
Beth Stobbart, 16, a pupil at Durham Johnston School, won a session at Studio One in Chester-le-Street after winning a competition on Durham Local Radio (DLR).
Entrants were asked to explain why they should be chosen to record three songs with backing tapes.
Beth, who is doing theatre studies, and is a member of various theatre groups, impressed the judges.
Her demo, which included a version of Elton John's Your Song, was played on air. Programme manager Hugh Evans said Beth's entry stood out among the 28 that the competition received.
The station has been broadcasting since the start of the month on 107MHz FM. Its run ends on Sunday but it hopes to win the permanent commercial licence for the city
