RAF Leeming's Annual Charity Challenge is set for Saturday, October 4 with all money raised again going to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Service.

The match last year produced bumper chub weights and the River Swale match length remains the same for this year's big event.

Peg one will be on the Bedale Beckmouth incorporating Leeming, Far Fairholme and the Bradford and Middlesbrough AC water at Gatenby.

Open to teams of four or individuals, tickets cost £4 and include food at the presentation after the match.

Friday and Saturday's heavy rain came just in time for Sunday's Tees Championships staged around Yarm and skimmer bream fed in numbers as the river started to colour up.

Alan Lepatourel finished the 2003 titleholder well ahead of the disappointing entry with 27.6.0.

The Newman Scott team member pulled out peg 176 upstream of Whitehouse Farm in the reed beds and feeder fished mid river with worm on the hook tempting samples to 2.8.0 in bursts.

Runner-up Geoff Keech of Yarm included a 2.0.0 perch in an otherwise skimmer net of 18.2.0. Again the worm proved the killing bait in conjunction with the groundbait feeder and caster catching across off peg 158, three swims below the Levenmouth.

Others: Colin Huggins (Diawa Cleveland) 14.11.0; Nigel Johnson (Diawa Cleveland) 13.2.0.

The NYSD Federation Don McMasters Trophy on the Over Dinsdale length of the Tees fished very well considering the venue rose 10" throughout the match.

Chris Parvin of Albert Hill Club fronted 13 double figured weights after capitalising on a good draw, peg 102 below Bowl Hole Corner, to put 27.6.0 onto the scales for victory.

Chris opted for the bomb to pin the bait down in the extra flow and located two small barbel and plenty of chub swapping between caster and meat hookbaits.

Second man Gerry Bowes caught on the float. Drawn on 33, the old boathouse steps, the RSPS Tek Neek Trabucco angler edged the loafer float down the nearside crease netting all chub on both meat and caster for 24.6.0 followed closely by Haughton's John Smith whose chub perch and barbel return totalled 24.2.0.

Best of the rest: Ant Alderson (Darlington) 17.10.0; Mark Lowery (Haughton) 15.3.0; Dave Miles (Leeds) 14.4.0.

An influx of dirty water restricted sport for competitors during the Darlington Brown Trout Scottish and Newcastle Trophy split between the Association's Tees sections at Low Coniscliffe, Blackwell and Croft.

Darlington's Geoff Pemberton legered luncheon meat from his swim below Coniscliffe car park and hooked 6 chub. A couple slipped free but adding a lone trout clinched the result with 13.1.0 at the whistle.

In reverse it was all trout apart from one chub for Darlington's Terry Longstaff as floatfished worm and maggot brought 10.6.8 below the weir peg at Coniscliffe.

Carp Scene

At Woodland Lakes the five-hour match record crashed during Tuesday's open switched to accommodate the big Police Championships and it was no surprise to see Dean Smith reclaim the title following a sensational run of summer results.

The Tek Neek Trabucco Elton superstar amassed a staggering 142.5.0 heading off two other 'ton up' hauls.

Dean on Partridge three started off with meat on the deck presented short at six metres and collected 60.0.0 of carp in three hours. Then in the final two,

'Smithy' stepped into turbo mode fishing up in the water at 13 metres to seal a perfect performance with his heaviest carp just 5.0.0.

Mark Coyne regarded by many as Dean's closest rival on the local carp scene also impressed bagging 110.9.0 of carp. On the same lake, the Map Elton regular worked at 5 metres all match alternating pellet and meat hookbaits.

Saturday's Open (68 rods) Partridge & Skylark: P Sellers (Elton Tackle) 87.6.0 of carp off Partridge 6; 2 D Pimlott (Drennan Elton) 80.10.0; 3 R Wilkinson (Newman Scott) 72.8.0.
