YOUNG people in the Northallerton area are missing out on special projects because they don't have a senior youth worker.
A qualified youth worker is needed for six hours a week to work with a team of trainees and volunteers.
Nobody applied for the post when it was advertised.
District manager for community education Judith Aird said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for someone with youth work experience to lead a team of keen and committed workers in a variety of projects.
"In particular, we have a noted presence on the streets through our detached work, meeting and supporting young people wherever they gather.
"We are also about to take delivery of a specially commissioned youth van which will enable us to provide a focal point for young people, particularly in rural areas, where we can undertake targeted work on health, drugs and other awareness or prevention activities."
She said: "Without a senior youth worker to direct this work, we are being forced to hold back and the young people are not receiving their full entitlement to youth service. We have excellent resources - but at the moment we are short of one person to pull it all together."
