Bishop Rugby Club missed out on the chance to go top when they were held to a draw at Evenwood White Swan.
Gary Dowson and Neil Teesdale gave the Swan a 2-1 lead but Rugby Club earned a share of the points with a 70th minute equaliser. Their goals came from Dwayne Hinds and Paul Barker.
Holders West Auckland Queens Head had an easy passage to the second round of the Norman Wright Trophy. Darren Wilson gave them a first minute lead against Wearhead and John Dawson added a second two minutes later. Hamish Foster made it 3-0 at half time before David Huntrods added a fourth.
Tow Law Station gave a battling performance at home to Crook White Swan but lost narrowly 5-4. Peter Brown (2), Edward Umpleby and Andrew Breen scored for Tow Law and the visitors replied through Chris Parkinson (2), Robert Punshion (2 pens) and Peter Lonsdale.
Byers Green St Peters held Coundon and Leeholme Juniors to 1-1 at half time but the visitors pulled away in the second period to win 5-3. Anthony Ebdon, Michael McGowan, Stephen Spence, Dale Jardine and Anthony Tait scored for the victors and Byers goals came courtesy of Barry Goundry, Christopher Pickles and Ian Brown.
Extra time and penalties were needed at Roddymoor where the home side met Stanhope Town. James Ivil put Roddymoor ahead direct from a corner but Andy Lee equalised. Seven times winners Roddymoor go through after winning the penalties 4-2.
Howden Australian twice led Willington WMC through John Connelly and Wayne Reed. The visitors played their part in a cracking match to force extra time which was settled with Kevin Burke's goal for the Australian to earn his side a 3-2 win.

Burnmoor Cricket Club moved to the top of the Premiership with a 5-2 win at Sacriston Wmc. Two fine strikes from Graeme Hutchinson plus goals from Lee Wright, Dave Hall, and Steve McMahon gave them the win. Brandon United remain in third place as they were also 5-2 winners at home to Spennymoor Quinn's. Prolific marksman Tony Hanson (2), Steve Graham (2) and one from Dave Fort did the trick. Fatfield North Biddick had a 6-1 win at struggling Fishburn wmc. Sedgefield moved into fourth winning 4-1 at home to Chester Garden Farm, Steve Flockett (3) and Mike Pittam scoring.
In the First Division a mid-table clash saw honours shared as Lumley FC and visitors Coxhoe Wmc drew 1-1, Paul Bainbridge for Lumley and Gavin Barton for Coxhoe. Esh Winning CC recorded their highest win of the season winning 9-3 at Hetton New Inn, Darren Burnham adding four to his tally along with goals from Paul Littlewood (2), Aaron Scott (2) and Gary Todd. Durham City Wmc maintained second spot with a 5-2 home win over Brandon Bay Horse, Ben Hulbert (2), Paul Richardson (2) and one from Richard Johnson.
In the Second Division Kelloe beat bottom club Bowburn Hare and Greyhound 1-0
