AN application to create two care homes has been passed by planners in Darlington, despite objections.
The application from St Martins Care Ltd to build two new care homes on land on the cormer of Ridsdale Street and Eastbourne Road had raised questions from local residents.
The homes, which will be built on the site of the former Lawns care home, raised concerns about access among local residents and members of the planning committee.
Although the main entrance will be from Ridsdale Street, there will also be a staff entrance and delivery entrance from Eastbourne Road.
Councillor Ian Hazeldine said: "It is madness to put an access point in that very narrowest part of Eastbourne Road.
"It's bad design, poor lay out and we need better access."
However, Councillor Stella Robson, ward councillor for the area, said that at a recent meeting most residents had express relief that most traffic in and out of the development would be from Ridsdale Street.
She added: "Most people will be pleased to see the site tidied up."
Members granted the application.
