The Richmond Meet committee is planning a Festival of Remembrance at the town's Zetland Christian Community Centre on Saturday, November 8.
All three armed forces will be represented at the event but any military organisations that would like to parade their standard are welcome to register by calling (01748) 824313.
CELEBRITY STORY: Author and journalist, Melvyn Bragg, will be speaking of his encounters with celebrities when he visits York next month. The South Bank Show presenter and writer will be at the Theatre Royal on Thursday, October 23, from 7.30pm. PRIVATE EYE: Seventeen of the 44 probationary police officers employed by North Yorkshire's western division will tour Harrogate's security camera control room on Tuesday. The visit will highlight the importance of community safety partnerships, underlining resources new officers can fall back on.
CHOIR POWER: Six choirs will be taking part in a fundraising concert at Bedale's St Gregory's Church next Saturday. About 170 people will take part at St Gregory's Church in aid of the Voices For Hospice campaign, from 7.30pm. It will coincide with performances around the world. Tickets cost £5, with proceeds going to Hospice Homecare, at Northallerton's Friarage Hospital.
WILDLIFE HAVEN: A churchyard in Ryedale has been praised as a wildlife haven. Volunteers at St Leonard and St Mary's Church have been singled out after developing a pond, putting up nest boxes and boxes for bees. Their work was highly commended in the Living Churchyards Awards, sponsored by npower and organised by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.
CONFERENCE DATES: Vale of York MP Anne McIntosh will be speaking at the Tory Party conference in Blackpool this year. Her duties include an address on the widening gap between north and south at the Northern Regional Development Agencies fringe event at the Hilton Hotel on Monday, October 6, as well as joining Michael Portillo for a Public Transport Question Time the following day.
FUN RUN: A 10km run in aid of Cancer Research UK is planned at Castle Howard on Sunday, October 5. The course runs through the estate. To take part, call 0870 190 9000.
