RETIRED cement worker Billy Wilthew and his son, Robert, made it a family affair when they took the first two places at their village leek show.
Although Billy Wilthew showed the biggest leeks, measuring 185.4 cubic inches, at the Frosterley show, in Weardale, he was pushed into second place by his son, who works for Blue Circle Cement in Scotland, with an entry of 176cu in, because his father's leeks were slightly marked.
In third place was Jim Murray, with 142.4 cu in. It was the first time he had shown at Frosterley.
Other results from the show were: Flowers, Steven Hodgson, Fir Tree; vegetables, Brian Young, Stanhope; home produce, Linda Nelson, Frosterley.
