A MAN has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a North-East teacher in a road accident.
Christopher Hornsey, of Holy House, Witton le Wear, County Durham, appeared before Teesside Crown Court yesterday accused of causing death by dangerous driving.
The 20-year-old was charged after the crash on the C18A between Howden-le-Wear and Witton-le-Wear on March 7.
Jennifer Askew, 54, a teacher at Staindrop Comprehensive school, at Staindrop, near Barnard Castle, County Durham, died in the accident.
She was deputy head of design and technology and head of year eight at the school, and previously worked at Longfield School, in Darlington, and Longbenton High School, Newcastle.
The case against Mr Hornsey was adjourned until November 10 at Teesside Crown Court.
