Mowden Park: The Under-13s had an excellent 46-10 victory at Billingham, scoring eight tries in total in a very open free flowing game.
This was a total team performance with everyone playing for each other, especially in the front row where Mowden were dominant, which proved a great platform for some very open running in the backs.
Playing his first game at No., Tom Oldham scored a hat-trick. Also centres Tom Catterick and Alex Gray combined well to get two tries each. The try of the match came from winger Chris Thomas playing his first game of rugby for the club, breaking free on half way proved too fast for the Billingham defence and scored right under the posts.
The coaches were very pleased with the overall performance but feel the team still need to tighten up on some of their tackling, especially later in the game.
Injuries and absentees saw a weak Mowden Under-15s squad face a well drilled Tynedale at the weekend. The first half saw Mowden defending for the first 17 minutes before Tynedale scored the first of a series of six try's and four conversions that put them 38 points up at the end of the first half.
The second half looked more hopeful when, after around 15 minutes, Chris Hossell managed to break clear with the ball and score for Mowden. Stephen King converting for the extra points. This was to be short lived as Tynedale again found Mowden's weaknesses, running in a further four try's with one conversion before the final whistle. Final score was Tynedale 60, Mowden Park 7.
